If you’ve looked at the pictures under the “A Peek into Our Classroom” heading, then you’ve seen some of the fun activities that take place at All God’s Children. Although a picture is indeed worth a thousand words, it is also nice to see in writing the specific goals that the teacher is trying to help the children attain through these activities. Below is a list of State of Illinois benchmarks that will be focused on in the pre-k classroom. This list is geared towards “whole class learning”. Children are also given individual attention based on their needs and interests.
1.A.ECa – Understands that pictures and symbols have meaning and that print carries a message.
1.A.ECd – Identify some letters, including those in own name.
1.B.ECa – Predict what will happen next using pictures and content for guides.
1.B.ECb – Begin to develop phonological awareness by participating in rhyming activities.
3.A.EC – Use scribbles, approximations of letters, or known letters to represent written language. (Focus will be on writing their first names).
6.A.ECa – Use concepts that include number recognition, counting and one-to-one correspondence (Focus will be on numbers 1-10 for recognition and 1-20 for counting).
6.A.ECb – Count with understanding and recognize “how many” in sets of objects (Focus will be on sets up to 10).
6.D.EC – Make comparisons of quantities.
8.B.ECa – Recognize, duplicate and extend simple patterns, such as sequences of sounds, shapes and colors.
SCIENCE
12.A.ECb – Show an awareness of changes that occur in themselves and their environment.
12.E.ECa – Use common weather-related vocabulary (e.g. rainy, snowy, sunny and windy)
19.A.ECa/b – Engage in active play using both gross and fine motor skills
23.B.EC – Act independently in caring for personal hygiene needs.
25.A.ECc – Music: participate in music activities.
25.A.ECd – Visual Arts: participate in the visual arts.
31.A.ECe – Use appropriate communication skills when expressing needs, wants and feelings.
31.A.ECb – Exhibit eagerness and curiosity as a learner
32.B.ECa – Engage in cooperative group play.
Our goal at All God’s Children is to create an environment where children can experience the fun and excitement of early learning. The skills they attain in our classroom will give them an excellent foundation to support their future school adventures.
