In Baptism, God says “Yes!” to each one of us, promising to love us and care for us as beloved children.  With a little water and a big promise, God says to us, “From this day on, I am yours and you are mine.  Just as there was nothing you did to deserve me, so there is nothing you can do to be apart from me.  I am with you always, to the end of the age.”  This is the promise of baptism.

If Baptism is God’s gift, then Confirmation .is the instruction book on how to live in this gift. Confirmation at the Lutheran Church of Mahomet  is a two year program for 7th and 8th graders.  In Confirmation, students read and reflect on God’s promises of love and faithfulness.

One year of Confirmation focuses on the Bible.  Students learn about God’s relationship with God’s people through the Old and New Testament.

The alternate year of Confirmation is devoted to the Small Catechism: studying who God is and what God desires for us and from us through the Apostle’s Creed, the Lord’s Prayer, the Ten Commandments, Baptism and Holy Communion.

We encourage confirmation students to do the following:

  1. Attend Confirmation class on Wednesday evenings as part of the LOGOS schedule.  Class meets from 7:10-8pm on each evening that LOGOS meets.  We strongly encourage confirmation students to attend as much of the LOGOS evening as possible.  Occasional fellowship and mission activities with the 6th grade class also occur on Wednesday evenings.
  1. Attend Sunday School.  The Sunday School curriculum provides further discussion on the Wednesday evening topic.
  1. Complete a minimum of 10 worship/sermon notes during the year.  Forms are available in the narthex.  Worship notes may be turned in from other worship services that the student might attend.
