“Worship is setting our heart’s affection and our mind’s attention on God”
The Lutheran Church of Mahomet invites you to worship our Lord with us. Recognizing that we are a diversified congregation, we offer two Sunday worship services in differing styles but with the same scriptures and sermon message.
Liturgical Communion Service ~ 8:30 a.m.
Our first service is a traditional Lutheran service which uses liturgy and hymns from the Lutheran Book of Worship as well as other hymn favorites. Music is lead by the organist and chancel choir. Occasional musical offerings are also made by the other choirs of the church. The pastors and assisting ministers wear traditional albs and other vestments and are assisted by scripture readers and communion assistants from the congregation.
During the summer months from June through mid-September, we celebrate a single combined worship service at 9:00 a.m.
Celebration Service ~ 11:00 a.m.
Our second service shares the traditional elements of the Lutheran service while using a variety of different responsive dialogues and contemporary musical responses. Worship is lead by the Pastors, The Praise Team, and a Celebration Leader. A less formal style is used which encourages participants to praise God with a musical form more suited to the everyday lifestyle they are accustomed to. Music is lead with guitars, percussion, and keyboard. This does not make contemporary worship any less sincere than traditional worship. Sister Act, Voice Male, and Youth Choir also prepare anthem selections for this service. Appropriate dress is more casual and vestments and robes are not worn by the pastors or acolytes.
Second Saturday Service ~ 5:00 p.m.
Held every 2nd Saturday of the month at
5p.m., this service focuses on healing and includes opportunity for individual
absolution and anointing with oil. The setting is informal with time for silent
meditation and individual and corporate prayer. This service also includes
communion open to all.
Communion
The Lord’s Supper is shared at all Sunday morning worship services. We believe that all those who have been baptized, trust in His Word, repent of their sins, and set aside any refusal to forgive and love as He forgives and loves us, are welcomed to the table to eat and drink of the body and the blood of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We believe that in this meal, our sins are forgiven, and we are sustained and strengthened for service in the world.
